Heike Ahrends 14 – September 28, 2024Geburtstag

Opening Saturday, September 14, 12-16
Preview Friday, September 13, 17-20

My paintings are created with a playful unintentionality. It is the result of years of daily practice.
The surface of the painting is as individual as the face of a person who has lived a long and happy life. The motifs are universal, highly reduced poetic elements.
When I paint, I consciously put myself in a state of flow. And then I ground myself. Then the painting process becomes vibrantly light, like a blissful dance under the bluest sky with my eyes closed. Then I know for sure that I am in the right place at the right time.
Emotions are amplified during painting. Emotion materializes in power, harmony and lyricism. It is haptic. It is tactile.
I write poems with color. The goal is that the viewer should not get lost, but instead find his way home to himself.

Heike Ahrends

Heike Ahrends was born in 1969 in Berlin, but has lived on the island of Mjörn between Orust and Tjörn since 2000. Her painting is characterized by the meeting between the real and the unreal, the concrete and the abstract. Heike Ahrends trained in both fine art and fashion design in Germany and England.
As a professional artist, Heike Ahrends explores the metaphysical essence of nature using oil paint. When Heike was very young, she discovered the beauty around her and felt that there was a secret behind everything that was visible.
