Jonas Wickman Towards the light October 26 – November 9, 2024
Opening Sat Oct 26 at 12-16 Preview Fri Oct 25 at 17-20
“What I wanted to be when I grew up – I knew right away! I haven’t been able to separate life and work, and I’ve been lucky enough to make a living doing what I always knew I wanted to do. I want to express my thoughts poetically through art.
I believe that everything you do is self-portraiture. What I show here is a collection of my self-portraits.
Crafts: All these hours of work have given me the knowledge and courage to simplify the expression. I want to mix craft and poetry, whether I am making music, welding a motorcycle or laying a mosaic table. I want the craft – the skill and experience – to show in everything I do. No matter how long it takes.
Breaking takes time.Love is in the breaking.”
Jonas Wickman
Jonas Wickman (b. 1962) is a multifaceted artist. His artistry is firmly rooted in a craft that, beyond painting, can range from mosaic walls to custom-built motorcycles.
At Galleri cu@uddenberg, he shows paintings that are linked to the Impressionists. Landscapes and forms are dissolved, buildings are mere silhouettes. Yet there are fixed points for the eye – carefully depicted flowers, historical environments. Jonas has chosen to call his exhibition “Towards the Light”. It is a title that resonates well with the works he exhibits. Turner, someone has said. Why not Monet? Jonas continues in their spirit.
